The Dish - October 2024

As we step into October, we're excited to highlight a core value that drives the DSxHE community—global cultural diversity and inclusion. At DSxHE, we believe that advancing health equity through data science is only possible when we embrace the rich diversity of perspectives, experiences, and expertise from around the world. We invite you to dive into one of our focused themes, seek new collaborations, or have insights to share in our blog series, Your voice could inspire others globally and here at DSxHE.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s unfolding this month:

  • Don’t miss out on our October DSxHE Download as we discuss Large Language Models and Emergency Medical Scenarios with our speaker Dr. Paulina Boadiwaa Mensah on the 15th.

Join us for The Download, our monthly informal, conversational and informative online Meetups!

These are open to anyone in the world, no matter what your level of experience and background. They are just an opportunity to meet fellow DSxHE-ers and learn a few new things :)

Roll up, roll up! This month we'll be discussing Large Language Models and Emergency Medical Scenarios with our speaker Dr. Paulina Boadiwaa Mensah. We’ll explore how LLMs are being used as decision support tools in healthcare, especially in medical emergencies. Despite the wealth of data, how effective are LLMs in real-world, resource-constrained settings? Let’s find out together!

We look forward to seeing you there on Tuesday 15th October at 6 pm (BST).

Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

For too long, health spending was seen as an ever-rising cost to the state rather than an investment in a productive asset that can help drive economic growth. This paradigm is increasingly outdated and requires establishing a modern, data-driven fiscal framework at the heart of government. The introduction of an NHI model will be necessary to support a mission-led approach to growth and health, provide stability and predictability to health budgets, and fix a system that has been funded by short-sighted investments to plug short-term gaps. Read More here.

Let's Do Digital - Youtube

In the digital age, the balance between cybersecurity and usability in health systems is more crucial than ever. Geoff Revill will, in this webinar, delve into the delicate interplay between patient trust, clinician trust, and the security measures necessary to protect digital health information. Geoff will contrast the traditional trust norms in face-to-face clinician-patient engagements with the current digital realities, exploring how digital security models align or conflict with societal expectations.
