🎥Mental Health Webinar Series: Dr Ellen Driessen🎥

In our latest DSxHE Mental Health Webinar, we had the honor of hosting Ellen Driessen, Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology at Radboud University in the Netherlands. Ellen, a renowned researcher with numerous awards, including from the Dutch Government, shared her groundbreaking work on personalized treatment approaches for depression.

As a clinical psychologist, Ellen’s research is centered on improving treatment for depression by focusing not just on the efficacy of treatments but on tailoring interventions to the individual. Her ultimate goal is to enhance care by identifying the best treatment for each person based on their unique characteristics, going beyond general treatment guidelines. She leads a large international project on personalized medicine approaches for depression, where they are developing a tool to select the most suitable treatments for individuals.

In this talk, Ellen shared valuable insights into the factors that influence how individuals respond to treatments for depression. She highlighted the importance of using both clinical data and controlled trial data, along with sophisticated statistical methods, to identify personalized responses to treatments. Ellen also discussed how these research findings could be translated into clinical practice, helping healthcare providers make better treatment decisions for their patients.

The webinar is part of the Data Science for Equity Mental Health Webinar Series, aiming to explore how data science can address mental health care inequalities and enhance treatment. The series highlights how data can identify those most at risk and provide better care for underserved groups.
