What does your job actually entail?

I joined the group where I am working now in February 2022. The post duties include using data science/machine learning and statistical methods to reveal the impact of COVID-19 on cardiac function and structure. Besides that, I am interested in biological age estimation and therefore I run several projects related to estimating cardiac age and revealing the impact of environment and genetics on cardiac ageing. Moreover, due to my interest in Explainable AI (XAI) which help the users to digest the model outcome, I worked on some projects aiming XAI in healthcare and biomedical applications.

When not at work you can be found...

Spending time with my family or friends visiting parks, museums, and farms across the United Kingdom.

Why did you join the DSxHE community?

I joined the DSxHE community to meet like-minded people and collaborate if possible. In addition, I like to meet new people from different institutions and learn new things. The community is a good opportunity to share knowledge of members from different backgrounds that ultimately aim data science in healthcare.

What’s your interest in data science and/or health equity?

I have been working on healthcare and biomedical data since my PhD study and recently found interest in XAI. I think XAI might involve health equity as well in a broader concept. XAI might be helpful to detect any bias decision due to health inequity.

What’s a recent article/book/video/blog/event you’ve come across on data science and/or health equity that you found interesting and why?

The paper (Big Data Analytics and the Struggle for Equity in Health Care: The Promise and Perils - PMC (nih.gov)) highlights several significant issues with big data including health equity and how data scientists and experts could collaborate to address them.

What is your last Google search?

XAI review papers.

What dish do you cook best?

Spaghetti.
