Keen to explore genomics and health equity while connecting with a friendly, global community?
The DSxHE Genomics Theme is reimagining genomic research. For too long, the field has excluded diverse populations, reinforcing inequities in healthcare and scientific understanding. We reject extractive, top-down approaches and instead work in collaboration with local experts, Indigenous scholars, and historically marginalised communities whose knowledge is vital but undervalued.
You could help us with things like:
Connecting people through virtual knowledge-sharing sessions
Helping organise a webinar series on genomics and health equity
Gathering and sharing useful tools and resources for our Equitable Data Science Toolkit
Supporting partnerships that promote equitable, community-led research
Possible ways to contribute:
Finding and sharing interesting articles or case studies in our Slack community
Writing short summaries, blogs or posts for our community
Reaching out to speakers or guests for events
Helping with community messages and online engagement
Keeping shared resources tidy and up to date
Nothing is set in stone! you can shape your volunteering to learn a new skill, try something different, or simply meet new people while making a meaningful contribution. Whether you have an hour here and there or a regular slot, your time is valued.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
Are interested in genomics, health equity, or community-led research
Enjoy working with others and learning along the way
Have any time you can offer, big or small, to join in projects or discussions
What you’ll gain:
The chance to work alongside a lovely team, experts in the field and change-makers from around the world
A chance to raise your profile and have a friendly platform to share your ideas and connect with others in the field
Opportunities to explore new skills in research, event planning, communication, and more
The satisfaction of helping make genomics a tool for inclusion and fairness
