About the event

Join us for the launch of the Data Diversity Theme, a new initiative from Data Science for Health Equity (DSxHE) in partnership with Cancer Research UK.

📅 Thursday 23 October, 14:30–16:00 (online)

🔗 Mind the Gaps: From Challenges to Change in Biomedical Data Diversity

This launch event will set out the Theme’s vision for its first year and explore how we can move from recognising the challenges in achieving data diversity to making real change. We’ll hear from the Theme’s Leads (Dr Toral Gathani,  Dr Manuel Corpas & Dr Brieuc Lehmann) plus CRUK’s EDI Programme Lead Dr Mat Tata, CRUK Digital Cancer Research Team Lead Dr Harriet Unsworth and a Patient Advocate, and we’re delighted to host a keynote from Prof Shaun Treweek (University of Aberdeen) on designing inclusive clinical trials.

Alongside the talks, there will be an interactive discussion where we want to hear from you: What barriers do you face in designing and conducting inclusive research? What practical steps would help? The event will be a chance to share experiences, connect with others, and shape the future of this new community.

👉 Register now to be part of building a more inclusive, representative, and equitable future for biomedical research.

About the Data Diversity Theme

Health datasets often don’t reflect the diversity of the populations they aim to serve. This lack of representativeness can limit the generalisability of research, reduce the effectiveness of new tools, and risk widening health inequalities.

A partnership between Data Science for Health Equity and Cancer Research UK, the Data Diversity Theme brings together researchers, clinicians, funders, and patient advocates to co-create practical ways of embedding diversity across the research lifecycle. It is co-led by Dr Toral Gathani (University of Oxford), Dr Manuel Corpas (University of Westminster), and Dr Brieuc Lehmann (UCL).
