About the event

Welcome to the  DSxHE's Download; our monthly informal, conversational and informative online Meetups!

These are open to anyone in the world, no matter what your level of experience and background. They are really just an opportunity to meet fellow DSxHE-ers and learn a few new things :-)

We are thrilled to be joined by Jodie Chan - Public Involvement Officer within the Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI) at Imperial College London

Session description:

There is growing interest from researchers to involve patients, carers, and the public in their research, as well as a growing expectation from funders to do so. Public involvement professionals hold a wealth of knowledge and experience around how to do this but are often over capacity and may lack the time needed to give researchers tailored support.

We designed the Public Involvement Front Door to be a first port of call for public involvement support. Concise, user-friendly, and full of practical advice and resources, we hope the site helps researchers feel empowered to carry out meaningful and high-quality public involvement with appropriate safeguarding. During the session, we will discuss why the site was created, how we worked with public partners to develop it, and how you can use the site to support your own work.

Speaker bio:

Jodie Chan is a Public Involvement Officer within the Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI) at Imperial College London. She works across IGHI to support the meaningful involvement of patients, carers, and public members in research and led the development of the Public Involvement Front Door. In her role, Jodie has a strong focus on deepening and diversifying IGHI’s relationships with its local community and is passionate about building reciprocal and sustainable partnerships to support community-led research. Her recent work includes a participatory arts-based study exploring the healthcare experiences of women experiencing homelessness; a mixed-methods study exploring the mental health support needs of 10- to 13-year-olds; and a qualitative study exploring patient experiences of waiting for orthopaedic care for those living in the most deprived areas.

Email us at info@datasceinceforhealthequity.com if you want to host next time & share your work or anything interesting that you've encountered lately. Or, if you're looking for some inspiration on what to share, why not have a look at the DSxHE Library?

See you there!
