About the event
Talk:
How routine clinical data has informed national mental health service delivery
David Clark is Emeritus Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, and NHS England’s Clinical and Informatics Advisor to the NHS Talking Therapies Programme
Profile: https://www.psy.ox.ac.uk/people/david-clark
David is a clinical psychologist who has shaped the way mental health treatment is provided in both the UK as well as internationally. After developing cognitive models of a number of anxiety disorders which were used to develop current interventions, David initiated what is now known as the Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression programme which provides evidence-based psychological interventions to over 1 million people per year in England.
In this talk, David will discuss how the use of routinely collected data has been central to the success of the NHS Talking Therapies programme. This will include insights around how inequalities in access and outcomes have been identified, and how data can be used to inform best practice.

About the Mental Health Theme Webinar Series
Using data science to identify and reduce inequalities in mental health care.
There are known inequalities in access to mental health treatment across different groups of people. There are also observed differences in the likelihood of benefitting from treatment for those who are able to access support. As the number of people who are suffering from mental health disorders is increasing globally, there are concerns this will further exacerbate these inequalities. Advances in data science have the potential to identify those most at risk, and how we might provide better care for these groups.
This webinar series brings together researchers and clinicians working in mental health to hear about ways in which data science might be used to support how treatments are provided.
